When can we look forward to the new edition of the book? Moving past my preferences meant that I had to meet each hike on its own terms. The book covers all the worthwhile hiking destinations throughout the county – including the coast, foothills, mountains, and desert – in trips ranging from the short family excursions to multi-day backpacks.
I only wish I could have accompanied you on more hikes. To ask other readers questions about Afoot and Afieldplease sign up. It provides not just the essential directions for completing a hike, it enhances the experience by telling the story of how the landscape came to be the way it is. The 3D map in the mind especially.

Schad profiles the hikes according to difficulty, provides maps and directions, and writes a step-by-step illustration of the experience of walking on each trail.
